Here is what social media companies are planning for 2024!
A weekly newsletter about all things social media by Nuelink
The past week witnessed a flurry of developments that kept users, businesses, and marketers on their toes. Join us as we delve into the key highlights, providing you with a snapshot of the latest in the world of social media and technology.
On Tuesday, X (formerly Twitter) surprised users by reintroducing headlines at the bottom of link preview cards, showcasing a small font. However, the enthusiasm was short-lived, as the company swiftly reversed the update. This change followed X's decision, initially proposed by Musk in August, to remove headlines from URL preview cards for “improved aesthetics.”
Shifting gears to job listings, X, within six months of launching X Jobs, reported a staggering 750,000 roles currently advertised on the platform. The job listings feature, introduced in August, is part of the Verification for Organizations package, now available in two versions: the original $1,000 per month option and a new $200 per month option.
TikTok published a comprehensive content planning guide for 2024. The guide not only outlines key dates but also provides insights into utilizing TikTok's ad tools and functions. Additionally, TikTok sets ambitious plans to grow its U.S. TikTok Shop business tenfold, targeting a potential $17.5 billion, positioning itself against rivals like Amazon, Temu, and Shein.
Instagram, on the other hand, is exploring ways to expand its Collections feature, allowing users to share curated posts on their profiles. This public Collections option would offer visitors a deeper understanding of users' interests, from celebrities to books and movies, potentially influencing whether someone chooses to follow.
On a broader scale, Google initiated the first phase of its cookie-removal strategy on January 4th. This strategic move, set to impact the targeted ad system, involves categorizing users into topic listings in an anonymized manner.
Lastly, Google seems to be developing an upgraded version of Bard named Bard Advanced, likely powered by Gemini Ultra, the highest tier of Google's recently introduced large language model (LLM).
