Is TikTok dethroning Google as the go-to search engine?!
A weekly newsletter about all things social media by Nuelink
Welcome back to the Nuesletter and the Nuelink Chronicles! This week has been hectic, so strap in to get started on your weekly dose of social media news.
Threads users can now breathe a sigh of relief as the app introduces the “opt-out of Facebook and Instagram” feature. If you don't see the new toggles yet, don't panic, Meta likes to take its sweet time rolling out features.
But that's not all, Threads is addressing other user concerns. Now, you can delete your Threads profile without sacrificing your Instagram. There's a new 30-day grace period, if you don't resurrect your profile, it's gone and Instagram remains blissfully unaffected.
In other Meta news, paying €9.99 a month for an ad-free subscription means not only are your own feed ads-free, but you also can't play ads for yourself or your business. Meta left many baffled with this one.
X, on the other hand, is prepping a “major update” to its algorithm. Elon Musk promises a spice-up, ditching the same-old popular posts routine. Now, it's all about discovering gems from smaller accounts.
Google has heard your complaints about its search not being relevant anymore. In an attempt to regain its search status, Google is launching two initiatives. One lets you “follow” topics for a personalized touch, and the other turns Google into a collaborative space where you can annotate web pages.
But, have you wondered who could replace Google? A Pew Research Center study spills the beans: 43% of TikTok users are now relying on the app for news. Move over, traditional news outlets, TikTok's got the scoop.
And that's a wrap on this week's social media shenanigans. Stay tuned for next week's episode and follow for more!
