📢 Nuelink Chronicles: Social Media's Weekly News Roundup
Get ready to dive into the exciting world of social media news as we recap the most significant events of the week. From new app launches to legal battles and innovative features, the social media landscape is buzzing with activity this week. Let's get started!
Meta Launches Threads: The Twitter Killer 📲
After much anticipation Meta unveiled its new social app called Threads. Users can now authenticate their Instagram accounts to post updates consisting of up to 500 characters, links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes long. Although available in 100 countries, Threads is conspicuously absent in the EU due to data privacy concerns.
Interestingly, deleting a Threads account will also result in the termination of the linked Instagram account. Despite this, the app has already gained an impressive 50 million profiles within just 24 hours of its launch.
Twitter vs. Meta: The Battle Begins ⚔️
Tempers flared as Twitter threatened legal action against Meta for allegedly poaching former Twitter employees to develop Threads. In a letter from Twitter's lawyer to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the social media giant accused Meta of unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets and other intellectual property. The clash between these tech titans promises to be an intense battle as they fight for dominance in the social media landscape. In my opinion, let's leave the courts out of it, and do the cage fight already.
Elon Musk Imposes Limits to "Protect Twitter's Data" 😰
In an effort to combat data scraping programs, or so he said, Elon Musk announced that Twitter would temporarily restrict the number of tweets users can read each day. Verified accounts will be limited to 10,000 posts per day, while unverified accounts will have access to 1,000 posts. New unverified users joining after the announcement will face an even stricter limit of 500 posts per day. This decision came after initial limits set by the company received significant backlash from users.
Bluesky Pauses New Signups 🛑
Bluesky, the decentralized social network, temporarily halted new signups to address performance issues. This decision was made after Twitter implemented tweet limits, causing an influx of new users to join Bluesky. Despite remaining an invite-only app, Bluesky has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing one million downloads across iOS and Android this week.
YouTube Tests Search Hyperlinks in Comments 📺
YouTube is exploring a new test that aims to enhance discovery and connect users to related content within comments. Certain keywords or phrases that encourage exploration will be hyperlinked, allowing viewers to easily navigate to related videos. To maintain user control, YouTube provides an option to opt out of this experiment for those who prefer their comments not to be hyperlinked.
