Twitter's revenue sharing program is just around the corner!
A weekly newsletter about all things social media by Nuelink
Here is what happened this week! 📰☕
Welcome to the social media news recap! It's been an exciting week filled with updates and changes in the social media landscape. Let's dive into the biggest stories that have been making waves. ✨
First up, Telegram, the popular messaging app, is set to introduce Stories in early July. CEO Pavel Durov made the announcement, revealing that users had been requesting this feature for years. Initially hesitant due to the abundance of Stories on other platforms, Telegram decided to listen to its users and fulfill their wishes. 🖼️
In other news, TikTok is discontinuing its TikTok Now feature, which mimicked BeReal, as it failed to gain traction with users. TikTok Now was heavily emphasized within the app but will now be phased out.
On a positive note for creators, TikTok is launching the "TikTok Creative Challenge." This new monetization feature allows creators to submit video ads for brand challenges and earn money based on the performance of their videos. Creators must meet certain requirements, such as having at least 50,000 followers and being at least 18 years old, to participate in the challenge.
TikTok might be venturing into the world of online retail by launching an in-app shopping section in the U.S. This feature would showcase TikTok's own line of products, allowing the platform to directly compete with major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Shein. 🛒🛍️
Shifting focus, LinkedIn has responded to user feedback by updating its algorithm to reduce the amount of irrelevant and non-professional content flooding users' feeds. This change aims to improve the overall user experience on the platform.
The platform is also exploring a shared analytics approach for its Creator Mode users. This new feature would enable influencers to share analytics data with businesses, offering a pathway to targeted promotion and direct revenue generation.
On other news, Meta is expanding access to its paid blue checkmark verification feature. Users will be able to purchase their own verified blue checkmark for a monthly fee, granting them access to dedicated account support and other exclusive features.
This has been a long time in the works. Twitter is introducing an ad revenue share program for creators. This program will allow creators to earn a share of the revenue generated from ads displayed in their tweet replies. Twitter Blue subscribers will have the opportunity to sign up for this monetization opportunity. 🆕💵
Also, Pinterest is experimenting with a new process to enhance ad targeting. The platform is considering scanning users' email inboxes to customize their Pinterest experience, providing more personalized content.
Lastly, Google is under scrutiny for allegedly misleading advertisers about the placement of video ads and potential violations of U.S. sanctions. The Wall Street Journal reported that Google's actions may have cost media buyers billions of dollars in digital ad spending, that is billions with a B. 😰
That wraps up the biggest social media news of the week. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as the social media landscape continues to evolve!

Trends 📈
The "Stop Recording When It’s a Lie" Trend: Use this sound and showcase every time the 'green flag' appears on the screen something that matches the theme or idea of the flag. But here's the catch – whenever the 'green flag' doesn't apply to you, pause the video and come up with a fun or creative way to show that it's a no-go for you.

Memes 🤣
The "Barbenheimer" Meme: In an unforeseen fusion, two highly anticipated summer movies, Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," have captured attention despite their differences. However, rather than celebrating each film separately, internet users have engaged in the playful endeavor of pitting them against each other or ingeniously merging them together. Thus emerges "Barbenheimer," a delightful portmanteau that encapsulates the essence of both films in a harmonious union.
