X, Elon's Dream and Twitter's demise
A weekly newsletter about all things social media by Nuelink
Welcome to the Nuesletter and Nuelink Chronicles. This week, we've got a whirlwind of updates and changes in the social media world that will surely keep you entertained. Let's get started!
Twitter, in a move that surprised everyone, bid farewell to its iconic little blue bird logo and embraced the letter 'X' as its new symbol. This branding suicide comes with a side dish of audio, video, messaging, and even banking features on the platform. Looks like Twitter's future is set to be a grand marketplace of ideas and whatnot, sounds like quite a handful! 😔
Not everything went smoothly, though. Twitter's rebrand hit a few bumps as remnants of the old branding still linger on the site. And let's not forget the legal drama brewing as several companies claim ownership of the letter 'X.' Someone's definitely gearing up for a lawsuit but court drama is Elon's idea of fun anyways.
Elon Musk is fully committed to the 'X' transformation, declaring that Twitter will soon be visible only in dark mode, keeping up with the sleek black theme.
In the advertising side of things, Twitter is offering discounts on video ads, but advertisers must brace themselves for a new policy change. Verified brand accounts will need to meet spending thresholds to retain their precious gold checkmark.
Threads, on the other hand, is facing a rough patch, losing a significant number of users since its launch. From 44 million to a mere 13 million. What a drop from grace.
TikTok, always the opportunist, is making bold moves as it rolls out support for text posts. Looks like they're ready to challenge the text-based content territory owned by Twitter and Meta's Threads. As Tiktok changes its colors, Mastodon is experiencing a surge in usage. With 2.1 million monthly active users, it's giving Twitter (sorry, X) a run for its money.
Meanwhile, Telegram is treating its Premium users to a new exciting feature, Stories! But non-Premium users will have to wait a bit longer to join in on the fun. 🖼️
On the other hand, Snapchat is on the rise, adding 14 million daily active users in Q2, reaching a whopping 397 million DAUs overall. And its ad business is also bouncing back, attracting more partners with improved optimization performance.
Meta is also not slowing down. Instagram is expanding subscriptions worldwide, allowing creators to offer exclusive content to their followers for a price. Facebook is also proudly boasts more than 3 billion monthly active users. That's nearly half of the world's population, a mind-boggling number! 😱
That concludes our roundup, keep on scrolling for this week's top social media trends, memes, and hacks.

Trends 📈
The “Put That Down” Trend: Lipsync to this audio and add comical text overlay. The focus of the video will be on situations where you would playfully insist that someone puts something down right away, like a regrettable purchase or an embarrassing belonging.

The “So Nothing Bad Happened?” Trend: This trend currently has various versions, the main one is sharing a funny video where you respond to whether you've shared a secret with different people and making a particular face when asked about a specific person.

The “WHERE?!” Trend: Use this sound, courtesy of an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to recreate moments when you have completely forgotten that someone is, indeed, referring to you.

The “Ignoring A Call” Trend: This trend is incredibly easy and very popular right now. Lay your phone flat on its back and begin recording. Pretend to look at the incoming call and intentionally decide to ignore it, allowing it to continue ringing. Afterwards, add text overlay explaining the reason behind your choice not to answer the call. Spice up this trend by adding a fun text on why you are ignoring the call.

Memes 🤣
The “X” Memes: Elon Musk's recent introduction of the letter 𝕏 as Twitter's new logo marked the end of the beloved little blue bird era. Larry the bird's legacy has been wiped from everywhere, from the site itself to the Twitter's San Francisco headquarters, partially anyways for the later. In response to this needless branding suicide, social media users lived up to their reputation of reacting with an abundant of memes and witty responses to the transformation.
